Vigor’s Horse-Action Saddle
We’ve all looked for new and different ways to get some exercise. We’ve seen machines that simulate rowing, bike riding and skiing. The options are limitless, and yet, someone out there once thought that simulating horse back riding was the “thing to do.”
The Horse-Action Saddle Was The Original Sybian
In the late 1890’s a company called Vigor invented a machine known as the “Horse-Action Saddle.” On the low-end, the saddle sold for the equivalent of $3,853 and on the high-end, it went for $11,560. We can’t imagine paying that much to experience a simulated horse ride, but according to the ad, Dr. George Fleming, C.C. called it “A perfect substitute for the live horse” The ad goes on to say the Saddle acts so beneficially upon the system as to be almost priceless in value. Wow, “priceless,” that’s quite a claim!

Gustav Zander and the world’s first gym
Swedish physician Gustav Zander created an institute in Stockholm that was the world’s first “gym” in the late nineteenth century and sparked a revolution in fitness products that continues to this day. His gym catered mostly to children and male workers and supported by the state, so it was open to all. In the United States, Zander sought to market products to rising American business class. He and many others designed contraptions that were sometimes as absurd looking as they were useless.
We can only surmise that Vigor was riding the wave when they created the Saddle which claimed to be able to simulate the trot, canter and gallop of a real live equine. Not only was it a great simulator, but could also promote good spirits, quicken the circulation, reduce corpulence, create appetite and cure indigestion and gout. So, make you happy, skinny, hungry and cure your upset stomach…sounds great to us!
A Vibrator in Disguise
We can’t help but wonder if this device was also a vibrator going by a different name. During this period a number of products claimed to cure the women’s medically diagnosed condition known as hysteria which was defined by “a state in which your emotions (such as fear) are so strong that you behave in an uncontrolled way.”

Hysteria could be “cured” by sessions in a doctor’s office via manual stimulation (yes, fingering) by the doctor or power douches (shower wand anyone?). All bizarre and what modern science would describe as insane treatments.
While the ad doesn’t specifically mention curing hysteria, the Vigor certainly could, if hysteria were an actual condition. As you may know, the Sybian is extremely similar to the original Vigor and more than likely drew inspiration from it.
The Horse-Action Saddle vs. the Sybian
The multi-speed settings, the saddle style and the promise to bring vital organs into “inspiriting action” are all hallmarks of the Sybian experience for a woman using the remote control. While the Vigor didn’t have inserts, it definitely would have given you many of the same thrills and much safer orgasm than any horseback riding would!
So, given that the nearest Vigor Horse-Action Saddle is probably in an erotic antique store, why not rent a Sybian from us today!
